Iowa COVID Memorial––Folding Cranes––Enfolding Community Migrates to NIACC in Mason City Iowa8/6/2023 The memorial migrated to a new venue in June! There are currently 10,797 cranes in the memorial and the new location has plenty of circulating air to put the birds in motion. If you are in Mason City, the cranes are located in the Student Activity Building in the center of campus. Be sure to walk up to the second floor to get a closer look at the memorial. Be sure to sign the guest book to let me know you were there! Thanks, Pam
March 24, 2023 marked the third anniversary of Iowa's first COVID-19 death. To date, COVID has taken the lives of 10,742 Iowans, and left many others with long-term issues.
Pam Douglas' Iowa COVID-19 crane memorial is a traveling exhibit that continues to touch hearts. Now at LORAS College in Dubuque, the display will next move to North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City in June. In 2024, the exhibit is slated to migrate to Sioux City. Additionally, central Iowans have the opportunity to see a smaller crane memorial that Pam created for the Waukee Public Library from April 3 through May 31. We'll share more details soon! Guess what? I have opened my new studio in the Mainframe Studios building on Keo Way in downtown Des Moines! If you have not yet visited this venue, you should get it on your "TO DO" list. There are over 200 creatives working in this building. Check it out on one of the monthly "First Fridays" where the building is open to visitors from 5-8. Come by Studio 227 and say hello! I continue to offer classes for adults and the next session begins on February 21, 2023. If you know someone who wants to learn how to draw or paint, have them visit my website at www.pamelasdouglas.com or call at 515.240.3830.
Folding Cranes | Enfolding Communities is now being exhibited at Reiman Gardens, Ames, IA! The exhibit represents a crane for every Iowan who has died from COVID since the state began recording COVID-19 statistics on March 24, 2020. Where names are available, they have been written on the wing of a crane.
A memorial to honor all Iowa victims of COVID-19 will be installed at Reiman Gardens, Ames IA, on September 22, 2021. The exhibit is made up of over 6000 origami cranes made one-by-one by artist Pamela S. Douglas. This pandemic experience is an historic phenomenon and communal experience. The intent of the exhibit is to offer an opportunity to honor and reflect upon those who have been lost to COVID-19 within our families and communities. Remain Gardens brings this community event to Ames and its surrounding communities in the "Garden Room." It will be available to the public at this beautiful venue until December 9, 2021.
