Description: For all those who claim they cannot draw a stick figure––this is the class for you. If you are truly interested in seeing the world in a new way and gaining knowledge about the tools and tricks of the trade, you will learn to draw the stick figure and more.
This course will give you the skills, understanding, and confidence to draw from observation.
Beginning: This class size is limited and structured so you can work at your own pace. Participants will be given weekly skill-building exercises to introduce them to the "language" of drawing. Participants will learn about how the principles and elements of art are achieved through drawing. While drawing from observation, participants will be introduced to classical and contemporary drawing approaches while investigating how various drawing materials and surfaces work together.
Intermediate: For those who have already taken drawing classes but still want to improve their understanding of the tools available or want to practice, this class is for you. The class is structured with a limited number of students and the flexibility to allow you to work at your own pace. Participants will continue to work on taking 3-dimensional objects and translating them into 2-dimensional space. Students will be challenged to strengthen their drawing skills and increase their understanding of how to use the tools and methods available.
Material list:
Beginning:
Newsprint pad (18" x 24")
Drawing board (23 1/2" x 26")
2 each of these charcoal pencils (2B, 4B, 6B)
Pencil sharpener
Pink eraser
Old T-shirt
Some type of carrying case for your drawing tools
Intermediate:
Bring any tools you have or are currently using. If necessary, suggestions will be made for any drawing tools
you need as we progress through assignments.
